The speech is significant both because its topic remains timely and because its arguments illustrate the applicability of the principle of utility to questions of large-scale social policy.
Worth the Read A nice (relatively) short yet interesting read. At approximately 100 pages this wasn't horribly time consuming to digest. While I think John Stuart Mill could have done without the long-winded defense of utilitarianism in comparison to other prevailing philosophical thought of the time I can see the necessity of starting his discussion this way. Besides the fact that I find utilitarianism to just be a written statement of general human feeling, his discussions on defining happiness, balancing happiness with cost, and personal vs. community happiness to be extremely interesting.Five Stars Book was in good condition. Had to buy for a philosophy course.good quality ordered this for school. came in great condition and was a good price.
